Gurmat Sangeet Chair, Punjabi University Patiala has established the first of its kind Online Gurmat Sangeet Library in the memory of a Sikh scholar Bhai Randhir Singh with the financial aid given by members of Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Surrey (Canada) which was inaugurated on 14th Dec., 2007 by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh along with former Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib - Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar Sri Anandpur Sahib - Giani Tarlochan Singh, Bibi Jasbir Kaur Khalsa - Chairperson Sri Guru Gian Parkash Foundation, Singh Sahiba Bibi Inderjit Kaur Yogi, Master Ujagar Singh - Canada and Dr. Gurnam Singh, Founder Professor & Head, Gurmat Sangeet Chair.

Dr. Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University Patiala on December 3, 2010 launched the Website Bhai Randhir Singh On-line Gurmat Sangeet Library at Gurmat Sangeet Bhawan. According to the Project Director Dr. Amritpal Kaur, this website is a nouveau website in digital form. The primary objective of this website is to preserve the publications related to Gurmat Sangeet along with other contemporary relevant research material. For this purpose, a vast collection of Gurmat Sangeet books, research articles, periodicals, audio recordings has been digitally presented. On this occasion, Dr. Jaspal Singh said this Library would be a milestone in the field of library - information as well as Gurmat Sangeet. Vice-Chancellor acclaimed this effort as grand venture to fulfill the primary objective of Punjabi University.


The Department of Gurmat Sangeet and Gurmat Sangeet Chair, Punjabi University Patiala organised a function to dedicate the book 'Bhai Mardana' written by the renowned writer Dr. Mohinder Kaur Gill. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh cheered the occasion as the chief guest. He said that the measures taken to make the immortal remembrance of Bhai Mardana are really praiseworthy and Punjabi University will always keep it up. The project Director Dr. Gurnam Singh, Dean Faculty of Arts and Culture said that a project of monograph series on the life and contributions of prominent keertankars has been initiated by Gurmat Sangeet Chair and Department of Gurmat Sangeet and this book is a part of the series.

Highlighting the distinct features of the research by Dr. Mohinder Kaur Gill, Dr. Amritpal Kaur said that the research work and books written by Dr. Mohinder Kaur Gill is milestone for the Gurmat researchers.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh and Dr. Gurnam Singh especially honoured Dr. Mohinder Kaur Gill for her distinct contribution in the field of Gurmat Literature and Music. On this occasion, Dr. Balkar Singh stated that Dr. Gill has beautifully captured the super-human relationship very minutely. Prof. Kulwant Singh Grewal also presented his views regarding the academic efforts done by the Department of Gurmat Sangeet which have gained a universal recognition. Dr. Jodh Singh also presented his views about the book. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gurnam Singh also announced that there would be series of Gurmat Lectures going to be organised from the next year and its first scholar would be Dr. Mohinder Kaur Gill.

On the occasion of the book release, A.P. Singh, the student of Department of Gurmat Sangeet was honoured for winning prize in the National Inter-varsity competition. The prominent dignitaries other than the students and researchers, present on the occasion were Dr. Sarbjinder Singh, Dr. Himmat Singh, Dr. Harjinder Singh Walia, Dr. Jasbir Kaur, Dr. Rajinder Lehri, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh.
